Taylor Davis is an educator, performer, and arranger with a passion for collaboration. He has given clinics and concerts throughout the United States and Europe, spanning a variety of ages and topics related to both marching and concert percussion. Taylor currently serves as Assistant Director of Percussion at Flower Mound High School and Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. He is the co-founder and Executive Director of Percussion Pal, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of resources for percussion education. As a performer, he has shared the stage with groups such as the Meehan/Perkins Duo, Sō Percussion, Glenn Kotche of the band Wilco, and Yo-Yo Ma. Taylor has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. and was involved in a production of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass under the baton of the Baltimore Symphony’s Marin Alsop. In addition to concert and contemporary music, Taylor is involved in Drum Corps International, teaching the Blue Stars Front Ensemble.
Taylor is one-half of the professional media company 2x1 Media. Their client list includes Todd Meehan, Ivan Trevino, Mark Ford, Paul Rennick, the Yale School of Music, Vic Firth, Zildjian Company, the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and more. Recent projects include Zildjian Live! Season Two at Sphere Studios in Los Angeles, California, where Taylor recorded artists such as Stanton Moore, Dennis Chambers, Ash Soan, JD Beck, Matt Greiner, and more.
He is a founding member of Lagan Percussion, the 2016 winner of the inaugural Semper Pro Musica competition. With Lagan, he is an active participant in commissioning and performing new music. Recent consortiums include Stress & Flow by Alejandro Viñao & Evergreen by Robert Honstein. Lagan often collaborates with other musicians, organizing performances of important works such as Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians and Terry Riley’s In C.
Taylor completed his Master of Music in Percussion Performance at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland, with renowned teacher Robert van Sice. He is a Presser Scholar and recipient of the Peabody Artistic Excellence Award. He completed his undergraduate studies with Todd Meehan and Ivan Trevino at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. Taylor is a proud endorser of Black Swamp Percussion, Zildjian cymbals, and Vic Firth sticks and mallets and serves as a member of the BSP Collegiate Educator Network. He is a licensed K-12 music educator and is a recipient of the TMEA Outstanding Music Educator Award. He also was admitted to the Sō Percussion Summer Institute (2016) and the Chosen Vale International Percussion Seminar (2014) where he worked with artists such as Sō Percussion, Paul Lansky, Stephen Mackey, John Luther Adams, and Cynthia Yeh. When he isn’t performing or teaching music he enjoys running, listening to audiobooks, and hanging out with his dogs.
One of Taylor’s great joys is teaching, and he loves interacting with students at the ensemble and individual level. He has spent time coaching percussion ensembles, conducting junior high and high school concert bands, and teaching all aspects of the marching arts. His current educational goals are centered on trying to improve the quality of resources for music educators, and he is striving towards those goals with Percussion Pal. Through Percussion Pal, he addresses these needs through print material, articles centered on percussion education, and video content.

Taylor is half of the production company 2x1 Media. Recording has taken him around the country, from filming world class drum corps in parking lots to Zildjian LIVE! in Sphere Studios, Los Angeles. His client list includes institutions such as the Yale School of Music and the Peabody Conservatory, organizations such as Vic Firth and Zildjian, and individuals such as Todd Meehan and Mark Ford. His recordings have been shared by outlets such as Classic FM, the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Percussive Arts Society.
Taylor believes it takes a depth of experience in performance and practice to be a quality teacher and tries to model these skills for his students. He has an extensive performance background and has shared the stage with some of the most influential composers and performers in contemporary and classical music. He has played chamber music at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, performed at the Percussive Arts Society National Convention, the Midwest Clinic, Texas Music Educators Association Convention, and more. He has served as the Principal Percussionist of the Waco Symphony Orchestra and performed under the baton of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Marin Alsop. He has shared the stage with artists such as Sō Percussion, Glenn Kotche of the band Wilco, and Yo-Yo Ma.
He is an avid chamber musician and helped found Lagan Percussion in 2015, who went on to win the inaugural Semper Pro Musica competition in 2016. With Lagan he has commissioned composers such as Ivan Treviño and Alejandro Viñao. Lagan is passionate about collaboration and has put together large scale projects such as Music for 18 Musicians, Amid the Noise, In C, and Inuksuit.

Taylor’s artistic output also includes writing and arranging for marching band. As a Texas native, he grew up heavily involved in the marching activity and maintains an active role in arranging and consulting with band programs. He has been involved as a performer and teacher at all levels of the activity - from UIL and BOA finalist band programs to top 10 drum corps to developing programs in small towns. Some of his recent work has been for Gatesville High School, Gatesville ISD, Guyer High School, Denton ISD Memorial High School, Frisco ISD, and Dobyns Bennett High School, Kingsport TN.
